Estrada Vs Rungvisai Rematch
24 hours before Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez faces Juan Fransisco Estrada in an eagerly-anticipated rematch for the WBC, WBA and The Ring super-flyweight titles, Thailand's own Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Kwanthai Sithmorseng do battle for the right to challenge the winner.
Multi-time former 115lbs champ Sor Rungvisai has defeated both Gonzalez and Estrada, having fought each man twice in the past. He is 2-0 against Chocolatito having claimed the WBC and Ring belts from the Nicuraguan in successive bouts before immediately retaining them in his first meeting with Mexico's Estrada to cap a fantastic three-fight run in 2017-18.
Sor Rungvisai lost the belts to Estrada in their second encounter, but then won two on the bounce in his native Thailand to move closer to what would be a trilogy fight against either of the two men set to clash in a return bout of their own in Dallas on the same weekend.
Standing in the way is Sithmorseng, who is a former two-weight champion at straw-weight and light-fly, but heads into the contest with patchier form than his favoured opponent.
“Kwanthai is very experienced, and he is a former world champion,” Sor Rungvisai told The Ring Magazine. “I cannot underestimate him, and I’m sure he will be more than 100-percent [ready].
“This fight is very important to me, and I must win with an impressive performance to show the world that I’m more than ready to fight them. I will fight the winner of Estrada and Chocolatito later this year. I have waited for almost two years for this world title opportunity. It’s time and I believe I can do it.
“My goal right now is to be a three-time world champion. I will put everything into reaching my goal.”
Estrada (38-3, 26 KOs) said he anticipates the rematch with Sor Rungvisai (47-4-1, 41 KOs), a 32-year-old southpaw and Thai national hero, will be another action-packed fight. In the rematch, staged 14 months later, a combination of Estrada getting off to a faster start and Sor Rungvisai curiously electing to fight in an orthodox stance instead of his natural southpaw position aided Estrada in exacting revenge via unanimous decision.

Estrada Vs Rungvisai Rematch Anthony Joshua
BANGKOK, Thailand -- Further to the sensational victory of Mexican 115-pound king Juan Francisco 'El Gallo' Estrada over tough and game former champ Carlos 'El Principe' Cuadras two Saturdays ago, the WBC has just ordered Estrada to make a mandatory defense of his green 'n golden super flyweight belt against Thailand warrior & WBC # 1 challenger Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
The Estrada-Sor Rungvisai battle would take place next year, although boxing fans have been wanting to see 'El Gallo' Estrada unifying super flyweight belts in a thrilling blockbuster rematch against WBA star Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez next. It now seems that Estrada-Chocolatito might have to wait.
That's because the WBC has already officially ordered free negotiations to unfold for Estrada-Sor Rungvisai 3, informing all relevant parties, including Team Estrada, Team Sor Rungvisai as well as promotional company Matchroom.
If no agreement for Estrada vs Sor Rungvisai 3 could be reached within the next 30 days, an official purse bid would be held on Tuesday, December 1, at the WBC head office in Ciudad de Mexico.
“I am super happy and excited to hear about this,' said Sor Rungvisai (49-5-1, 42 KO's) to BoxingScene.com.
'I would like to thank the President Mauricio Sulaiman and the WBC Championships Committee for ordering this mandatory fight of Estrada against me to happen next, as promised. Now I will dedicate my whole life to this fight to make the president and WBC proud.
'Really, I have been waiting for this fight since the day I lost my title to Estrada last year; and I am confident that I will get it back to become a 3-time WBC world champion. I have set this goal inside my head: to take the WBC world title strap back to Thailand.”
In their first battle, the Thailander Sor Rungvisai edged a majority decision win over 'El Gallo' for a successful title defense at the Forum in early 2018.
Estrada Vs Rungvisai
In their rematch last year, Estrada returned the favor by claiming a unanimous decision victory over the Thai slugger with the three judges scoring close in favor of the skilled Mexican from Hermosillo, Sonora.
And who would win their third battle?
The momentum seems to be 100% on the side of the talented 30-year-old Mexican, although in boxing anything can happen.
Importantly, during its online convention in August, the WBC had already ordered Estrada to make his mandatory defense against Sor Rungvisai immediately after one voluntary defense.
That voluntary defense unfolded against Cuadras (39-4-1, 27 KO's) on October 23rd in Ciudad de Mexico. It was a fan-friendly war in which 'El Gallo' Estrada dropped and rocked the brave 'Principe' Cuadras, overpowering him for a TKO at the 2:22 minute mark in chapter eleven.
Then, right after the sizzling clash, Estrada (41-3, 28 KO's), together with his fellow world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (50-2, 41 KO's) appeared together in a Zanfer Promotions video warmly congratulating each other for their wins while promising their many fans that they are willing to fight each other in a unification rumble in 2021.
However, the WBC order now points at another direction. The long-awaited Estrada vs Chocolatito rematch, eight years in the making, might have to wait a bit longer.
